THE CLINICO-ROENTGENOGRAPHICAL STUDIES ON THE DISEASES DUE TO IMPACTED TEETH IN KOREAN

Abstract
INTRODUCTION
The author has made the clinico-roentgenographical studies on the diseases due to impacted teeth in korean.
The most commonly impacted or unerupted teeth are the mandibular and maxillary third molars, and the maxillary canines.
Generally speaking, dentists have experienced occassionally that it was occurred the various secondary diseases by impacted teeth. Therefore, the impacted teeth should be extracted as soon as find in order to prevent unpleasant conditions.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
For these studies, 418 impacted teeth in 232 korean males and 393 impacted teeth in 218 korean females were selected for past 3 years in Department of Oral Surgery, Infirmary of School of Dentistry, Seoul National University.
The impacted teeth were analysed upon the following items, such as the frequency of impacted teeth in males and females, the predominant region of imp acted teeth in the maxilla and the mandible, the incidence of impacted teeth in the individual teeth, the occurrances of secondary diseases due to impacted teeth, the predominant regions of secondary diseases due to impacted teeth and the frequency of the various diseases due to impacted teeth.
CONCLUSION
1. The frequency of impacted teeth were not significant in sexual differences though those were showed 51.541.755v, in males and 48.461.75% in females.
2. The predominant regions of impacted teeth were prevalent in lower right (30.58¡¾1.61%) and lower left(31.32+1.62%) than that in upper right (18.74¡¾1.37%) and upper left (19.36¡¾ 1.38%).
3. In the males, the impacted teeth were the most prevalent in third. molars(90.19¡¾1.45%) and the next, supernumerary teeth (4.54¡¾1.01%), canine (1.67¡¾0.62%), first and second premolars (each other 1.20¡¾0.53%), lateral incisor (0.72¡¾0.41%) and central incisor (0.48¡¾0.34%) in orders.
In the females, the impacted teeth were the most prevalent in the third molar (89.06¡¾1.57%), and the next, supernumerary teeth (5.85¡¾1.18%), canine(1.78¡¾0.65%), lateral incisor(1.27¡¾0.56%), first premolar(1.01¡¾0.50%), second premolar (0.76¡¾0.44%) and central incior (0.25¡¾0.25%) in orders.
4. The occurrence of the seconday diseases due to impacted teeth was 31.44¡¾1.63% including 16.15¡¾1.14% in the males and 15.29¡¾1.26% in the females.
5. The predominant regions of the secondary diseases due to impacted teeth were the most prevalent in the lower right (39.61¡¾3.06%) and lower left (38.43¡¾3.04%) than that in upper right (11.37¡¾1.71%) and upper left (10.59¡¾1.92%).
6. In the maxilla of the males, the frequency of the various diseases due to impacted teeth were the most prevalent in the cases with follicular cysts (38.24¡¾8.02%), and the next, with inflammation (26.47¡¾7.06%), proximal dental caries (14. 23¡¾5.99%), malocclusion (11.76¡¾5.52%), root resorption (5. 88¡¾4.03%), and neoplasms (2.94¡¾2.89%) in orders, but in the mandible of males, the impacted teeth with inflammation were the most prevalent as 43.19¡¾5.02%, and the next, with proximal detal caries (23.71¡¾4.32%), follicular cysts (12.37¡¾3.41%), neoplasms and jaw bone fractures (each other 6.19¡¾2.44%), bone resorptions and malocclusions (each other 2.06¡¾1.44%), and root resorptions and ectopic tooth in the face (1.03¡¾1.02%) in orders.
In the maxilla of females, the frequency of the various secondary diseases due to impactad teeth were the most prevalent in cases with follicular cysts (31.82¡¾9.98%), and the next, with proximal dental caries and hypercementosis (each other 22.72¡¾8.99%), malocclusions (13.64¡¾7.31%), and inflammations (9.09¡¾6.13%) in orders, but in the mandibles. of females, the cases with inflammation were the most prevalent as 43.14¡¾4.90% and the next, with proximal dental caries (31.37¡¾14.60%), bone resorptions (6.86¡¾2.45%), hypercementcsis(5.88¡¾2.32%), follicular cysts and jaw bone fractures (each other 3.92¡¾1.92%), root resorptions and neoplasms (each other 1.96¡¾1.37%), and ectopic teeth in the face and maxillary sinus (0.98¡¾0.97%) in orders.
